Texas has had 201 confirmed cases of Zika virus disease. The following Texas County has reported high cases of Zika infection; Bexar, Dallas, Harris, and Tarrant. All the cases were associated with travel to an area where Zika is being spread. The count includes 12 pregnant women, two infants infected before birth, and two people who had sexual contact with travelers. There are reports that Zika virus is primarily spread through blood transfusion and sexual contact. Jim Wells County Safety Department and The Texas Department of State Health Services are encouraging people to follow travel precautions for regions and certain countries where Zika virus transmission is ongoing. -Updated on September 26, 2016.
