Jim Wells County Commissioners Announce Availability of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA)
Funds for Nonprofit Grant Applications

The Jim Wells County Commissioners has announced Six Hundred Thousand Dollars ($600,000) available in grants for nonprofit organizations, located in the County, through the Jim Wells County American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) COVID-19 Community Recovery Grant Program. The mission of the Jim Wells County ARPA program is to give its residents and community access to resources, rebuild the infrastructure systems that impact their everyday lives and targets the needs of its residents.

The Grant program aims to support organizations responding to the COVID-19 public health emergency or its economic impacts in Jim Wells County. Nonprofits play a critical role in our community in serving our veterans, combat food insecurity, housing, homeless shelters, provide animal welfare services, offer mental health services, offer programs that will support our youth and our seniors in our community, and help promote and preserve art, historical and cultural resources. Any 501(c) (3) Nonprofit organization in good standing is eligible to apply for a maximum up to $50,000 in funding.

Applications are available on https://www.co.jim-wells.tx.us/page/co.county.judge.notice and/or can be picked up at the County Judge’s Office or the County Clerk’s Office at 200 N. Almond St., Alice, Texas, 78332.

Homeowner Assistance and Reimbursement Programs (HARP)

 

The Texas General Land Office (GLO) allocated $137.8 million in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for housing and reimbursement recovery following severe flooding in 2018 and 2019 in South Texas and the Lower Rio Grande Valley as well as Tropical Storm Imelda in Southeast Texas.

The Homeowner Assistance and Reimbursement Programs (HARP) provide:

• Repair or reconstruction of owner-occupied single-family homes.

• Reimbursement up to $50,000 for certain out-of-pocket expenses incurred for repairs including reconstruction, rehabilitation, or mitigation.

Repayment of SBA loans is also eligible for reimbursement.

Residents in the following counties are eligible for assistance: Cameron, Chambers, Harris, Hidalgo, Jefferson, Jim Wells, Liberty, Montgomery, Orange, San Jacinto, Willacy.
